Here’s how to achieve and perfect the "deco-glam" look:


Skin


It’s sexy, but not in a stereotypical way. Think full-blown glam taken down a notch or two. Skin should be fresh, but flawless. Use a light foundation to contour and highlight, bringing out your cheekbones (without caking it on). Remember, you don’t want to look like you’re trying.





Nails



Ebony nails are the only way to go. Think glossy, piano-key black for an elegant, yet edgy, deco-glam style.





Eyes



Deco-glam eyes are particularly dramatic. Part gritty, part glossy, the key to this powerful look is a good metallic-grey eyeshadow. Layer it up on the eyes, adding just a touch of show-stopping shimmer. Take your cue from the old-school screen sirens, and add flicks of eyeliner for fierce feline-like eyes. Even though the look is smudged, you may need steady hands for this one. Finish with heavy mascara and those fashion forward A-listers are sure to follow suit.





Lips



Give your lipstick the worn and lived-in effect by wiping away the middle. It’s best to use a neutral colour, or matt tone, on your lips so that attention won’t be drawn away from those panda eyes.

Hair



Deco-glam screams rock’n’roll; it’s unfussy and unabashed, so the same should apply to your hair. Tame tangles and comb through, before messing it up again and working in product with your hands for a morning-after effect. Hairstylist Sam McKnight says, “It’s glossy, gorgeous hair that’s lost a bit of its glamour.”





Clothes



Down-styling is the new up-styling and no-one does it better than Mary-Kate Olsen. Teaming deco-glam make-up with biker leather, torn tees, tailored blazers, heavy-metal details and attitude to boot, her look would guarantee backstage access at any rock concert. Like Mary-Kate, don’t be afraid of mixing and matching the wrongs and rights. And, if all else fails, hit up the dance floor and get a little messy!
